What is Diogenes?
An innovative multi-disciplinary,
multi-centre research project to advance understanding of how obesity can be
prevented and treated from a dietary perspective.
It integrates studies of dietary, genetic,
physiological and psychological/behavioural factors.

Its full title is “Diet,
Obesity and Genes”
- Diogenes is supported by
14.5 million Euros of EU funding, under the Food Quality and Safety Priority of
the Sixth Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development of the
European Union, through the Directorate-General for Research of the European
Commission. The total project budget will be 20.1 million Euros.
- The
five-year programme involves a consortium of 29 partners across Europe. It is
made up of world-class centres in diet-and health studies, epidemiology, dietary
genomics and food technology. It also includes 3 major food industrials and 5
Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs).
- Based on the new
knowledge generated, the project will demonstrate prototypes of innovative
products or advice regimes which will help susceptible individuals to avoid
weight gain and re-gain, and link with implementers to facilitate
commercialisation in the market place.
