This resource originated as a
two-day course (Genomics on Obesity) organised in June 2007
for young scientists from 3 EU-funded projects:
Diogenes -
Hepadip -
NuGO
All three projects are part of the Priority Area Food Quality and Safety of
the European Commission's
Framework Programme 6. Each has a large consortium of participating partners,
from countries across
the EU and beyond. Diogenes and Hepadip are research projects studying various
aspects of the obesity
problem and adipose tissue metabolism. NuGO is a Network of Excellence
facilitating best practice
and technology development in nutrigenomics in Europe. Full details can be found
on the websites
(links below).
The course, hosted by INSERM, Toulouse, France consisted of a number of presentations and two
interactive exercises.
The organisers
recognised that the material could be a useful introduction
for others
interested to learn more about
the molecular basis of obesity and the modern techniques
to study it,
specifically students and young researchers in the field.
Each of the PowerPoint
presentations from the course includes
- A contents page
-
Short
notes to clarify the slides where necessary (use View/Notes page)
-
Some useful literature references
-
A list of
the abbreviations and acronyms used, and their full names
This resource cannot be a complete training in itself. It is intended to
stimulate interest, highlight principles,
and lead the reader to original literature references. Readers with any
questions or looking for further
guidance are invited to contact the respective presenter.
